ALPS. ARCHITECTURE. SOUTH TYROL. presents a comprehensive survey of the architectural development process in South Tyrol between 2018 and 2024, relating its most recent architectural history and reflecting the ongoing transformations in the construction landscape.
La mostra ALPS. ARCHITECTURE. SOUTH TYROL. presenta un inventario dei progetti che documentano l’orizzonte architettonico che si è sviluppato in Alto Adige tra il 2018 e il 2024. La mostra racconta la recente storia architettonica della regione e riflette le continue trasformazioni del paesaggio urbano.
Die Ausstellung ALPS. ARCHITECTURE. SOUTH TYROL. zeigt eine umfassende Bestandsaufnahme des baukulturellen Entwicklungsprozesses in Südtirol zwischen 2018 und 2024. Sie erzählt die jüngste Architekturgeschichte des Landes und spiegelt die fortschreitenden Transformationen der Baulandschaft wider.

The projects being presented were selected by a high-calibre jury, consisting of Kurator Filippo Bricolo (I), Annette Spiro (CH) and Elisa Valero Ramos (ES).
La selezione dei progetti è stata curata da una giuria internazionale composta dal Filippo Bricolo (I), affiancato da Annette Spiro (CH) e Elisa Valero Ramos (ES).
Die Auswahl der präsentierten Projekte erfolgte durch eine hochkarätig besetzte Jury, bestehend aus dem Kurator Filippo Bricolo (I), Annette Spiro (CH), sowie Elisa Valero Ramos (ES).

The jury initially viewed over 240 submitted projects in order to draw up an initial shortlist then, after numerous site visits, selected 28 “main projects”; these are presented in detail both at the exhibition and in the accompanying high-quality catalogue. A second group of 28 “special mentions” will be presented in reduced form.
Tra le oltre 240 proposte pervenute e dopo numerose visite il loco da parte dei tre membri della giuria, in mostra sono esposti 28 progetti principali e 28 menzioni speciali, che trovano spazio in mostra e in catalogo in modo più ridotto.
Die Jury sichtete zunächst über 240 eingereichte Projekte für eine erste Vorauswahl und wählte nach Besichtigung zahlreicher Bauten vor Ort 28 Main Projects aus, die sowohl in der Ausstellung als auch im begleitenden hochwertigen Bildband ausführlich vorgestellt werden. Eine zweite Gruppe von 28 Special Mentions wird in reduzierter Form präsentiert.

The jury’s selection criteria are also reflected in the theme of this year’s Biennale, Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective., chosen by architect and curator Carlo Ratti. While the exhibition is primarily intended to investigate the core question as formulated by Filippo Bricolo – namely whether there exists a unique South Tyrolean architecture and, if so, what are its characteristics – it also addresses the main themes of the Biennale.
I criteri di selezione della giuria sono affini al tema della Biennale di Architettura di quest’anno, Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective, scelto dal curatore Carlo Ratti. Da un lato, l’esposizione affronta la questione centrale formulata da Filippo Bricolo, ovvero se esista un’architettura altoatesina e quali siano le sue caratteristiche distintive; dall’altro si occupa dei temi guida della Biennale.
Die Auswahlkriterien der Jury spiegeln sich auch im diesjährigen Biennale-Thema „Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective.“, das vom Kurator Arch. Ratti gewählt wurde. So untersucht die Ausstellung zwar in erster Linie die von Filippo Bricolo formulierte Kernfrage, ob es eine eigene Südtiroler Architektur gibt und welche Charakteristika sie auszeichnen, beschäftigt sich aber auch mit den Leitthemen der Biennale.

The focus is on projects that stand out for their sustainable planning, careful reclamation of town centres and the use of landscape and materials in a way that best conserves resources – all aspects that are pronounced features of the region’s architectural transformation, which are explored in depth in the 82 main projects.
Al centro ci sono progetti che si distinguono per una pianificazione sostenibile, il recupero attento dei centri urbani e un utilizzo delle risorse, del paesaggio e dei materiali il più possibile accorto – aspetti che caratterizzano il cambiamento culturale nel settore architettonico della regione e che vengono approfonditi in modo particolare nei progetti principali.
Im Zentrum stehen Projekte, die sich durch eine nachhaltige Planung, die behutsame Wiedergewinnung von Ortskernen sowie einen möglichst ressourcenschonenden Umgang mit Landschaft und Materialien auszeichnen – Aspekte, die den baukulturellen Wandel der Region prägen und in den 28 Hauptprojekten besonders vertieft werden.
